Dominik

DOMINIK šŸ¾ – Rochester NY area

Male, Pointer mix, 1 year old, 38 lbs.

Dominik is just about the sweetest little pea you could ever hope to meet. Playful and curious, surprisingly docile and quiet for his age, and extremely well-socialized, this boy is an absolute gem šŸ’Ž As far as he is concerned, there are no strangers, just friends he hasnā€™t met yet. Sadly, he had the misfortune of landing in a shelter when he was only a lad, watching his more outgoing kennel mates come and go as he patiently waited for a family to call his own. After meeting him and discovering his gentle nature, itā€™s not hard to see how one so very kind and submissive could be easily overlooked in a noisy shelter environment. His friends in Texas thought he might have better luck elsewhere, so he made the trip up north to continue the search for his happily ever after.

When heā€™s not trolling for hugs, this freckled fellow is a busy little bee šŸ and loves spending time outside, so his ideal home will have a fenced yard and/or an active family to take him on adventures. He is great on-leash as well and has requested that daily walks be a part of his routine. Other interests include but are not limited to playing with all kinds of toys, running around the yard, chasing leaves, sniffing out subterranean critters, and apparently reading comic books. He seems to be convinced that he ought to be able to attach himself to someone like a symbiote if he just leans in hard enough and channels his inner Klyntar. Not for lack of trying, he has been unsuccessful thus far. Understandably a bit unsure of himself and his place in the world, he thinks WE ARE DOM sounds like a reasonable arrangement but will have to settle for impersonating Velcro for now.

Dominik is currently working on basic commands, crate training, and learning all about living in a house – with great comfort comes great responsibility, after all. Despite his inexperience living indoors, he has taken to potty training like a champ, accepts correction/redirection very well, and possesses an unrelenting politeness even when he is ā€œmisbehaving.ā€ English Pointer mix, perhaps? šŸ§ Getting comfortable with the crate, however, is a work in progress. While he can be finessed with treats and distractionary tactics, he is not happy about being separated from everyone once he realizes that he has been bamboozled. He will let anyone within earshot know about it too, so an apartment or townhome with shared walls might not be the best idea for those who want to stay in good standing with the neighbors. This insecurity will most likely subside over time – and he will undoubtedly benefit from an established resident dog to keep him company – but at this point he would do best in a home where he does not need to be alone often and is allowed to slowly work up to longer periods at his own pace. He is making progress and building confidence every day and will certainly continue to blossom with a calm and patient hand to guide him.

This dog is a literal angel and deserves the world, but all he wants is a warm lap to melt into and someone to love. And maybe to meet a chipmunk. If you think Dominik could be your new best friend, he would love to meet you! Please submit the Adoption Application at k9orphans.org/adopt to be considered.
